“The Corvallis Community Band will kick off the summer Concerts in the Park series on Tuesday, June 19th at 8 pm with a concert celebrating the local musicals that have been performed this year.  Each Tuesday through August, the band will convene at 7 pm to rehearse and an entirely new concert with a different theme will be performed promptly at 8pm.  Community members with at least high school band experience are invited to join in for any or all the concerts.  In anticipation of the eventual retirement of Steve Matthes, the only conductor the band has ever had, the band is using some of the concerts to interview potential assistant directors.  Four of the concerts will be entirely the responsibility of four local conductors who have planned the theme and music of the concerts as well as rehearsed with the band.  This year there is also a bonus Monday concert on July 16th at Bruce Starker Arts Park which will preview the next day’s concert in Central Park.  There is no seating provided and the weather can be unpredictable, so you may wish to bring blankets or low-backed chairs and dress for the weather.  All the concerts are free.  The themes of the concerts change each week and the schedule is below:

June 19 – Local Musicals (Annie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, West Side Story) with guest artists- Cast from West Side Story conducted by Jim Martinez, and dancer, Maddie Koegler

Caveman Dave Summer Tour 2018 @ Calapooia Brewing Company
Jul 26 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Caveman Dave Summer Tour 2018 @ Calapooia Brewing Company | Albany | Oregon | United States

Hailing originally from a cave, near what is now called “The Atlantic Ocean”, this troubadour has traveled the country singing songs for 5 years. His family-friendly, “not just for kids” approach to songwriting honored him with spots at some of the longest, continuously run music festivals in the country, including the Philadelphia Folk Festival and the Oregon Country Fair. His Americana blend of folk tunes from silly kids songs to heart felt, gritty tales of travel, invokes influences from Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Shel Silverstein, Raffi & Leon Redbone to Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Wilco, JJ Cale & Talking Heads.

We’ll be there every other Friday night and there is no cover charge. The jam runs from 8 pm till midnight and musicians are encouraged to come early to ensure a spot to set in, we’ve been having so many players show up it’s hard to work them all in. We’ve been holding this jam for a year and a half and it has worked into a great event with a lot of the mid valley’s best talent showing up.
