“The Corvallis Community Band will kick off the summer Concerts in the Park series on Tuesday, June 19th at 8 pm with a concert celebrating the local musicals that have been performed this year.  Each Tuesday through August, the band will convene at 7 pm to rehearse and an entirely new concert with a different theme will be performed promptly at 8pm.  Community members with at least high school band experience are invited to join in for any or all the concerts.  In anticipation of the eventual retirement of Steve Matthes, the only conductor the band has ever had, the band is using some of the concerts to interview potential assistant directors.  Four of the concerts will be entirely the responsibility of four local conductors who have planned the theme and music of the concerts as well as rehearsed with the band.  This year there is also a bonus Monday concert on July 16th at Bruce Starker Arts Park which will preview the next day’s concert in Central Park.  There is no seating provided and the weather can be unpredictable, so you may wish to bring blankets or low-backed chairs and dress for the weather.  All the concerts are free.  The themes of the concerts change each week and the schedule is below:

June 19 – Local Musicals (Annie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, West Side Story) with guest artists- Cast from West Side Story conducted by Jim Martinez, and dancer, Maddie Koegler
